Employer Sponsored Visas

Australia’s Employer-Sponsored Visas

Australia offers several employer-sponsored visa options to help fill skills shortages and attract talented workers from around the world. These visas allow skilled professionals to live and work in Australia, with some providing a clear pathway to permanent residency. Key options include the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (subclass 482), the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186), and the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 494).
Each has its own eligibility requirements and benefits, offering opportunities to match your skills with the needs of Australian employers — whether in metropolitan centers or regional communities.

Skills In Demand Visa (482)

The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa, previously known as the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482), allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas when they cannot find the right talent locally. This visa enables you to work for your sponsoring employer in your nominated occupation for up to four years, depending on the stream. In many cases, it can also be a pathway to permanent residency. It’s designed to address immediate skills shortages while giving you the opportunity to gain valuable Australian work experience.

Employer Nomination Scheme (186)

The Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) is a permanent visa for skilled workers who are nominated by their Australian employer. It suits individuals who have the skills, qualifications, and work experience needed for roles that are in demand. Your occupation has to be eligible to be able to apply for this visa and will require a positive skills assessment before applying. This visa provides stability for you and your family, offering the right to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional Visa (494)

The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (subclass 494) visa is a provisional visa for skilled workers nominated by an approved employer in a designated regional area. Your occupation must be eligible for this visa, and a positive skills assessment may be required. The 494 visa allows you and your family to live, work, and study in regional Australia for up to five years, with a pathway to permanent residency through the subclass 191 visa once key regional residence and work requirements are met.
